One of the most common questions couples ask is simply: how long do we need the musician for? The answer depends on which parts of the day you want covered. Here’s a rough guide to help you plan.
The ceremony
A ceremony booking usually covers around 20–30 minutes of live music — a prelude as guests arrive and are seated, the processional as you walk down the aisle, the signing of the register, and the recessional as you leave. It’s short, but it’s the emotional heart of the day.
The cocktail hour
Most couples book roughly an hour to an hour and a half for post-ceremony drinks and canapés — enough to keep the atmosphere flowing while photos are taken.
The reception
Reception coverage varies most. Some couples want live music through dinner; others want an upbeat set later in the night. Live sets are usually played in blocks with short breaks, tailored to your run sheet.
